Expanding our options through varied movement

If you're a busy professional, parent or grandparent the chances are you probably do the same 4-5 movements every day - walking, sitting, carrying household items and maybe if you've got time (or inclination) a bit of running or cycling.

When new members join they can sometimes be shocked by how much they struggle to move on the ground, crawl, pick up heavy objects, and get past obstacles.

This can be demoralising, particularly so if you remember being able to do these movements when you were younger.

Because we all live in environments where we're not challenged, we forget what we used to be capable of and don’t even realise what we’ve lost.

It’s easy for people to become frustrated with themselves or the new movement.

But once we develop the tools and the confidence we start consciously moving more throughout our day - and suddenly more opportunities to move start to appear.

I often liken this to learning a new word. Once you've learnt it, you hear it everywhere and wonder how to managed to get so far without knowing about it.

On a sliding scale of social media madness, this could mean that suddenly you're able to leap across from one roof top to the other🏢🏃🏢...🙄

...but for most of us it'll mean that we can confidently swing a bag of 15kg dog food onto our shoulders whilst telling the shopkeeper "nah, don't worry, I've got this!" 💅
