We are three! (sort of)
Today marks three years since we started our WhatsApp group which was then called “MomGym.”
A couple of sisters trying to get stronger. One husband - a recovering personal trainer who had switched to Public Health – who was kindly on hand to show us what to do.
Turns out it’s very easy to cancel on your sister.. a spot of drizzle and a broken night’s sleep with a baby will do it.
So we invited others. Much to our surprise they kept turning up every Tuesday and Thursday.
It was relentless. But also sort of wonderful.
We chatted, we shared, we suffered a bit - particularly when our hands were frozen, the weights got heavier and the jumps got higher.
But we got better gloves and better muscles (cool sentance..!)
We found we could do more than we’d ever imagined.
I discovered that perhaps in a parallel life I should have been someone who jumps a lot.
Mary found that she’s mega strong.
Kat found that she actually bloody loves exercise.
Megan found that she can snatch a weight overhead in a movement so slick you can hardly see she’s lifting anything at all.
And Andrew found that perhaps there is a role that sits between public health and the fitness industry.
Watching our Pangbourne group grow and morph, friendships forge and confidence grow has been a beautiful thing.
It turns out that while we use exercise as the “hook” we can be as much about spending time together, connecting with nature as we can about getting stronger, fitter and finally learning how to climb up and over a branch.
Just sharing this screenshot of a conversation between me and one of our members (I asked for consent to share!) talking about testing out a session together. It perfectly sums up WildStrong!
