A self guided course to explore through play, wobble and gradual challenge.
Balance is part of how we move through the world — how we respond when things change, recover when something unexpected happens, and feel confident exploring our environment.
We'll explore different kinds of dynamic balance, challenge the systems involved in balance and reaction, and spend time in new and unusual positions.
There's no perfect way to do the activities — the aim is to find what feels manageable for you now, and gradually add challenge over time.
Building your movement goggles
Our Movement Modules take a focused piece of our wider Movements for Life course and let you build capability at your own pace. Rather than teaching you a "perfect" way to move, the aim is to help you solve movement problems, discover what works for you, and expand your sense of what's possible.
Part of this is developing your movement goggles — learning to notice more opportunities to move, play and explore in the world around you. As you try things and build capability, your confidence grows. And as confidence grows, you start to notice even more opportunities.
This module is a stepping stone, not an all-encompassing balance programme. It's here to give you ideas, build your confidence, and help you start noticing chances to challenge your balance and reactions in everyday life.
“There’s so much thought behind every movement. It’s not just ‘do this exercise,’ it’s why it matters, how to adapt it, what to notice. I felt like I was learning a new language with my body.”
Carol, 53
